Small Boat Design and Building
We will build to your specifications using traditional or modern building methods, focusing on your needs and the function of the boat.
Quahog Pram
The
Quahog Pram was designed for us by John Brady of the Philadelphia
Maritime Museum. This is a fast little row boat, and a perfect
tender. The traditional lines give it style. The pram is an
intrinsically stable boat when loaded down with gear, and this
one is no exception. It is a kind boat for kids learning the
skills of rowing and boat handling. It is easily transported,
weighing around 125 lbs.
The sailing version comes with a traditional lug rig, and dagger
board and is an exceptionally responsive little sailing dinghy,
perfect for gunk holing. It is a stable and fun boat for kids
to hone their sailing skills on. The balanced lug is easy to
rig, yet offers the excitement of a traditional boat.

Henson Skiff
Taken from plans found in Rudder Magazine, circa 1915. P.T.
Henson stretched it from a traditional 10' flat bottomed skiff
to a 14 footer, which he built in 1938. At the request of his
son, Arnold Henson, we took the lines off the old boat and build
a new version using cedar planking, an angelique stem, and oak
frames. The transom, keelson, skeg and rubrails are wana, and
the seats spanish cedar.
It is used as launch as well as an exceptional rowing skiff.

Henson Pram
This is our second project commissioned by Arnold Henson. The
requirements were that we take the lines off the original 60-year-old
pram, which we did with some minor improvements.

The result is a very sweet little tender that rows and tows
well, and looks great to boot! Construction is meranti mahogany
plywood (BS 1088), solid mahogany fore and aft transoms, spruce
stringers, chines and floorbaords, and cedar seats.
A single rowing station is standard, but a second one is an
option. We have strived to keep the costs down by carefully
choosing long lasting but affordable materials.
