Restoration and Repair Restoration of Emma Rose, a 14 foot sailing dinghy built in 1964 in Japan.
Emma Rose is the quintessential barter boat who came to us three years
ago and unfortunately sat neglected until she was finally brought inside.
We had thought she would be restored as the lap strake boat she was,
until we realized that she could have been originally conceived as a
round bottomed boat. She was built with ribbands and rounded frames, so
we took our clues from them and sheathed her in two layers of cross
diagonal 1/8th inch Spanish cedar and 6 oz cloth and epoxy sheathing. Her
rig is typical of that era: oval shaped mast and boom with a slot for the
bolt rope. We will sheath the deck in plywood and Dynel for durability,
and trim her out in sapele mahogany.

Look for picture of the finished
boat soon!
