About Pleasant Bay Boat & Spar Company

Shop Crew

Pleasant Bay Boat and Spar Company, LLC, was founded in 1999 by Suzanne Leahy. The growth of the business has been steady ever since, including a move to our permanent home in 2005. While the shop has grown physically, so has the crew which has expanded to include four full time and several part time employees, as well as the young folks that show up for work during the summer months. Our customer base has grown exponentially as well, including many local favorites and people we have worked with on the internet, filling their orders for spars or custom flagpoles

.

Pleasant Bay Boat and Spar Company (PBBS) is dedicated to the fundamental principles of craftsmanship, education and design to the end that what we build exemplifies our vision and our philosophy. Education, research, collaboration and experimentation are strongly encouraged. We are a small shop with big expectations. It is our belief that our customers deserve the very best that we can offer. Our core mission is to build and restore boats but our foundation is also the education of young people in the ways of craftsmanship, business management and customer relationships.

We have been busy making small improvements in the yard as well as expanding our services for our customers. We have out-sourced our mooring and outboard services with a reputable contractor. This allows PPBS to provide these services at a lower cost to our customers. Shrink wrap is still done on site but we are encouraging customers to re-think the seasonal boat cover dilemma and expense and to consider as an alternative a custom made cover that can be re-used year after year. Please inquire about availability if you are interested.

Located in the Orleans Industrial Park, our facility includes a 4800 square foot shop featuring a completely equipped wood shop, a fifty six foot lathe for spars and flagpoles and 2400 square feet dedicated to boat building and restoration.

PBBS also offers seasonal commissioning, decommissioning and storage.
